Original piece based on spirits from Japanese mythology. — Hito-Dama
The spirits of the newly dead are said to take the form of great floating balls of fire, glowing in amber, pale blue or ruddy-white like the moon, sometimes dragging long blue flickering tails behind them. A hito-dama is often seen shortly before a sick person dies, leaving the weakening body and heading off for the next stage of existence. They often fall to earth or fade away shortly after they are seen, leaving a foamy or slimy residue on whatever they touch.

Ittan-Momen Fluttering through the night skies over Kagoshima prefecture, this innocuous-looking specter at first appears to be nothing more than a strip of white cloth about ten meters long, until it drops onto its unsuspecting human victim and wraps itself tightly aroujnd the head and neck, attempting to induce death by suffocation. Although in appearance the ittan-momen seems like some sort of tsukumo-gami, a man who once fended off this cloth bogey’s attack with his sword was left with blood on his hands when the apparition disappeared, perhaps indicating that this monster is a shapeshifting animal’s transformation.

Ao Andon, the Blue Lamp ghost.
Original artwork by me, based off the Ao Andon of Japanese mythology. In the Edo period, a popular pastime was hyaku monogatari, or “a hundred stories”. A crowd of people would gather in a room where a hundred candles were burning inside andon lamps, which had been covered in blue paper to create an eerie atmosphere. Then a hundred frightening supernatural tales would be told, and after each one was finished, a candle would be put out. When the last story was told and the room went dark, the demon called ao-andon was said to appear.

Vyne has two dads, and six other siblings. He is the son of a Weather Demon and a Plant Demon. Vyne is the middle child. He took after his plant dad, and he can make things grow and control plants. He’s not too good at it though. The blue gem on his collar and his bracelet are actually water, and they keep Vyne from drying out. You know, cause he’s a plant.
